AAIS 2012 Annual Conference

(Mar 26, 2012)

The annual conference of the American Association of Italian Studies (AAIS 2012) will be held this year May 3-5 at the College of Charleston, located in one of the South's most historic and charming cities, Charleston, South Carolina. In 1977, composer Gian Carlo Menotti and city officials established the Spoleto Festival USA, forging a link with Italy that remains strong to this day. Menotti wanted to build a cultural bridge, enabling patrons from around the world to enjoy the arts in historic places on both sides of the Atlantic. In the years since, Charleston has become an epicurean's delight, featuring a spectrum of critically acclaimed restaurants, many of which celebrate Southern cuisine. And Charleston, like many of Italy's seaside towns, has a long maritime tradition. The average temperature in May is 80 degrees.
Keynote speaker: John Dickie, University College London
