Italian American Writers Association January Newsletter Now Available

The January 2014 IAWA Newsletter is now available at www.iawa.org, filled with lots of fresh news for  writers and readers about events, people, publications, resources, and opportunities. Kicking off the month is the regular reading and open mic at NY's Cornelia Street Cafe on Saturday, January 11, 2014 from 5:45 PM – 7:45 PM.

The fetaured readers are Linda Baldanzi and Stephen Massimilla
Stephen Massimilla is a poet, critic, professor, and painter. His latest book, The Plague Doctor in His Hull-Shaped Hat, was selected in the Stephen F. Austin State University Press Prize contest. He has received the Bordighera Prize for Forty Floors from Yesterday; the Grolier Prize for Later on Aiaia; and an Academy of American Poets Prize. His work has appeared in hundreds of other journals and anthologies. He is founding member of The Urban Range poetry collective and  teaches literary modernism, among other subjects, at Columbia University and the New School.

Linda Baldanzi studied poetry at the New School in NYC and Sarah Lawrence College. Her work has been published in Barrow Street, Redivider, Wisconsin Review, Cold Mountain Review, Euphony, and Saint Ann's Review. Her poem, “Arrogance of Stones,” appeared in the anthology For The Crowns of your Heads, a collection about Haiti with all proceeds donated to the libraries damaged by the earthquake. She conducts two poetry workshops at the Fort Lee Public Library. A Mount Holyoke graduate, she has an MA in Psychology, and most recently earned an MFA in Poetry and Poetry in Translation from Drew University.

Note: IAWA-East launched at Sidewalk Café in April and takes place on the even months. IAWA-West continues at Cornelia Street Café during the odd months.
