Dancing A Film: Luchino Visconti's "Rocco and His Brothers" at Montclair State University

(Jan 23, 2015)

Dancing A Film: Luchino Visconti's Rocco and His Brothers Inspires Emio Greco and Pieter C. Scholten. This multi-part program embraces two events on campus revolving around the dance performance ROCCO at the Kasser Theater of Montclair State University  (Feb. 12-15, 2015): a screening and discussion of Luchino Visconti's 1960 classic film Rocco and His Brothers, and a conversation with artists Emio Greco and Pieter C. Scholten of ICKamsterdam about their inspiration from the film and their intensely physical choreography. In addressing issues related to dance, film, music, and Italian Studies, the series of events is also prompting the development of teaching units on such diverse topics as migration, family, the aesthetics of the visual and the body, etc. Fully or partially integrated into the curriculum of several classes, this multi-part program aims at creating a dialogue across different fields of studies, ultimately asking the question: is creativity inherently interdisciplinary?
